The Marin Recycling Center is a part of the Marin Sanitary family of companies. It is the primary material recovery facility (MRF) for all residential and commercial curbside recyclable material in central Marin County.
The Center processes curbside recyclables, provides document shredding, and auto dismantling.
As part of our commitment to resource recovery, we are in need of upgrading our recycling facility to expand our sorting capabilities. With this upgrade, we will no longer have space to operate our buyback facility. We are sorry for any convenience for our customers, especially those who have been storing materials during the time we were closed for the pandemic.
To redeem CRV materials the following facilities are still in operation:
The Marin Resource Recovery Center (MRRC), located at 565 Jacoby St. in San Rafael, accepts most commons residential recyclables free of charge. Fees may apply for businesses and for residents dropping off items that are not recyclable. Learn more by visiting the MRRC website.

Built in 1986, The Marin Recycling Center is a part of the Marin Sanitary family of companies known as the Marin Recycling and Resource Recovery Association (MRRA) and acts as the primary material recovery facility (MRF) for all residential curbside recyclable material in central Marin County. One of the first of its kind, the facility was envisioned by Joe Garbarino who saw the need for a full scale recycling center here in Marin County.
The facility utilizes star screens, magnets, eddy current, blowers, hand sorting lines, and many other technologies to efficiently sort and bail all paper, cardboard, glass, aluminum, and plastic curbside materials. All material is then baled into its respective commodity type and then sent to market to be converted back into consumer products.
In addition to processing curbside recyclables, the Buy Back center inside the Marin Recycling Center accepts California Redemption Value (CRV) beverage containers and pays for certain source separated recoverable materials like scrap metal and cardboard.
